VP, US Market Access

Cornerstone Search Group has been retained by a fast-growing, late-stage, multi-asset, rare disease biotech with a very strong cash position, $1Bn+ market cap, and a strong culture set by an experienced executive team. This position will be the company’s inaugural Vice President (Head) of Market Access, and as such will build the US Market Access organization from scratch (including pricing, contracting, account management, distribution, patient services, etc.) in anticipation of their first launch in the second half of 2024.

DESIRED SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / BEHAVIORS:

  • Significant experience in US Market Access is required. Seeking experience across a range of market access functions such as payer engagement, government pricing, trade & distribution, billing & coding, list pricing strategies, etc. Patient assistance program experience is a plus.
  • Prior US Market Access department leadership experience is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with hiring, leading, and developing teams required.
  • Rare disease experience is a plus, but not required. Oncology and other TAs will be considered.
  • Prescription drug launch experience is required.
  • Strong financial modeling skills.
  • Ex-US experience (ideally in Europe) is a plus.
  • Seeking a proactive, self-motivated, and strategic individual who is transparent, builds trusting relationships, and can communicate in a crisp and compelling manner.
  • A desire to work in a fast-paced, hands-on, and entrepreneurial culture.

Location

Our client will consider candidates who can work locally 2-3 days per week in their San Francisco Bay Area office as well as candidates from the US or Canada who would want to work remotely.

Features

  1. Company well positioned for enduring success: This late-stage biotech is helmed by a proven executive management team, has multiple differentiated clinical-stage assets, an extremely strong cash position, and a high market cap (>$1Bn) reflecting Wall Street’s excitement about this company’s future prospects.
  2. Opportunity to build the US Market Access organization from scratch for 2H 2024 launch
  3. Company will consider either Hybrid or Remote work arrangements
  4. Report to an experienced CCO with both small and large pharma experience
  5. Unlike at most biotechs, the New Hire and Annual LTI Awards include both Options and RSUs

Market competitive base salary and annual bonus plus very strong new hire and annual stock awards that attractively feature both stock options and RSUs, both of which vest aggressively. RSUs are unusual for pre-commercial stage biotechs.

  • Determine US list/WAC prices for the pipeline of products along with related payer contracting strategies and patient co-pay assistance programs.
  • Lead contracting discussions with payers to ensure patient access.
  • Assess the need for a patient support hub and implement it accordingly.
  • Evaluate, select, and partner with third-party vendors for the management of patient assistance programs, government price reporting requirements, patient support hub, etc.

  • Partner with HEOR to construct economic models and data sets in support of payer value proposition messages.
  • Proactively monitor trends and developments in federal and state legislation as well as insurance industry policies across a multitude of payer environments including commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid. Develop strategies to influence government and commercial payers.
