Vice President, Research & Product Development | Precision Drug Delivery Technology: Join an innovative, hands-on team – work remotely – strong equity opportunity

Our client is an exciting cutting-edge life sciences organization that is focused on bringing more effective therapeutics to patients via proprietary nanoparticle drug delivery technology.  In this newly created position of VP, Research & Product Development, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing comprehensive strategic planning and decision-making across their diverse portfolio while also managing technical, scientific, and operational resources.

The ideal candidate will bring a broad Research & Product Development background, strong organizational skills, and the ability to lead a small team of scientists and collaborate across academic and industry partnerships.  As you’ll be joining this company before its breakout stage, you will have the opportunity for a significant equity position. As such, they require people who are self-directed and thrive when being held accountable and visible to corporate partners, management, and investors.

Location

Our client is based in the Midwest.  This position is remote-based, with the ability to travel to headquarters, meetings, and conferences a total of approximately 20%.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the CEO, responsible for all Research & Product Development across an innovative slate of early development drug delivery programs.  Responsible for decision-making, timeline management, scientific experiments/rigor, pipeline prioritization, cross-functional collaboration, external relationships, budgets, etc.
  • Hands-on/tactical responsibilities across scientific experiments and technical operations to include, but not limited to, PK assays, bioavailability, toxicology, analytical development/methods, etc.
  • Contribution across documentation, communication, etc. related to regulatory activities.
  • Management of both short-term and long-term planning/decision-making.
  • Establish and develop relationships externally across Pharma/Biotech, CROs, Academic centers, etc.
  • Manage and collaborate with the internal research team to design, execute, coordinate, and interpret experiments.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • PhD degree with a preferred focus in biology/biological sciences/pharmacology.
  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience gained working within both the Academic and Biotech/Pharma industries.
  • Pharmaceutical product development, including analytical, in vitro, and in vivo study design, implementation, and interpretation.
  • Results focused with project planning and tracking, portfolio management, and strong communication skills.
  • Experience with nanoparticle delivery systems, peptide-based pharmaceuticals, nucleic acid vaccines and/or therapies, cell transfection, oral delivery technology are a plus.
  • Experience related to cystic fibrosis/pulmonary, rare disease therapies, diabetes, vaccines, targeted therapies, animal health are a plus.
  • Experience beyond the bench is required. This will include program prioritization/decision-making, cross-functional collaboration and communication, general organizational skills, and a big-picture/strategic mindset.
  • Detailed Visionary – ability to paint a picture and support with details with high level academic and industry partners. Ability to identify gaps and complete the data sets required to secure industry investment and licenses.
  • Ability to influence and effect change across the organization to include with executive leadership.
  • Must be flexible to serve in a leadership role that also demands a “hands-on/attention to detail” work ethic.
