Chief Medical Officer (CMO) | Oncology Biotech – Boston Area/Hybrid | publicly traded & well-funded | multiple first-in-class clinical assets | RETAINED SEARCH

Cornerstone Search Group has been retained by a well-funded, cutting-edge Boston-based Oncology Biotech focused on developing novel targeted therapies. Our client is looking for a well-rounded, driven physician executive who will oversee all Clinical Development and Strategy while also serving as a leader of teams and people across an organization that greatly values their culture and their “can do” and “not afraid to try things” mentality.

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Medical Officer will have executive oversight across Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Biometrics, Regulatory Affairs, Safety and Medical Affairs while also serving as a critical executive leader cross-functionally to Translational Medicine, R&D, BD / Corporate Development, etc. Furthermore, the organization is growing, so you will hire further critical team members immediately.

Our client ideally prefers a candidate that is located in the Boston Metro Area, or will relocate here, as they greatly value in-person collaboration. That said, they are very reasonable and open to considering someone who would need a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A medical degree is required; Oncologist/Hematology training is preferred.
  • Extensive Clinical Development experience leading multiple assets and ideally having oversight across entire pipelines.
  • Experience managing senior-level Physicians as well as Clinical Development teams.
  • Our client greatly values the individual person. As such, they are willing to consider an “up-and-coming” Physician leader who brings all the critical attributes and skill-sets they desire but has not previously served as a CMO.
  • Must be a “hands-on”, “roll-up-the-sleeves” when necessary leader who understands the need for involvement within a small company environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; high “emotional intelligence” to enable favorable group dynamics, ability to influence others at all levels.
  • Must be open-minded, risk-tolerant, and not afraid to push or be pushed back in a professional manner.
