Chief Financial Officer | Public Clinical Stage First-in-Class Oncology Biotech, Connecticut | Retained Search

Cornerstone Search Group has been retained by a dynamic clinical-stage biotech company, passionately committed to revolutionizing cancer treatment. Our client recently completed a top-of-range public offering and is on a mission to discover, develop, and commercialize first-in-class cancer drugs with their robust IP portfolio.

 

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will have the responsibility of being a trusted strategic partner, collaborating closely with the CEO to propel the organization’s drug development and commercialization endeavors into the future. The CFO will spearhead the implementation of the organization’s corporate development strategies, encompassing the overarching principles for long-term portfolio and organizational planning, corporate partnership strategies, as well as the planning and execution of product acquisitions and divestitures.  Our client is looking for a hands-on, well-rounded executive with public company experience in finance, business development, investor relations, corporate development, drug development process, etc.

Location

Our client is based in Connecticut.  They would like the candidate in the office at least 3 days per week and would offer relocation assistance.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In summary, the CFO will have primary responsibility serving as an essential member of the executive management team reporting directly to the CEO. The CFO will have ownership over financial management across all aspects of the company and leadership of business/financial planning.  They will serve in a hands-on role and work with a hands-on CEO.

  • Drive long-term financial objectives, including all preparation and representation to institutional investors while shaping the capital markets strategy.
  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and collaborations that align with the overall corporate plan. Manage interactions with external stakeholders supporting internal development efforts.
  • Collaborate and work alongside the CEO, research team, and outside counsel to shape the IP strategy and processes.
  • Oversee business/financial planning, reporting, and analysis, ensuring the organization’s continued growth.
  • Identify and drive strategic business opportunities through relationship building, diligence, negotiation, and alliance management.
  • Serve as the primary voice and driving force to the investment community.
  • Ownership over market insight and research by understanding the competitive landscape and positioning the organization’s assets effectively.
  • Develop corporate presentations, NPV models, and press releases, as well as represent the organization externally at conferences and investor events.
  • Lead and support corporate projects as needed to fuel the organization’s growth.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree with an advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of successful progression in life science experience in finance and business development.
  • A deal sheet to include a wide array of innovative in- and out-licensing, and/or M&A, particularly in life sciences.
  • Accomplished financial executive capable of directing the managerial economics of the company’s operations and serving as external representative with institutional investors, market analysts, and potential industry partners.
  • High-level oncology, immunotherapy or cell therapy R&D contacts, with investor and banker contacts.
  • A proven track record in a clinical-stage company is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with a high degree of attention to detail and quality.
  • Abstract problem-solving, and strong negotiation skills required.
  • Comfort with financial modeling or review.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, independence, and resourcefulness to both lead a big vision strategy while also being willing to roll up sleeves and multi-task to thrive in a growing environment.
  • Experience in both large and small company settings.
  • Ability to hold oneself and others accountable for commitments in a positive and effective manner.
