Chief Executive Officer | Clinical Research Organization - Thriving Healthcare Co. Plans to Build CRO from Ground Floor | RETAINED SEARCH

Cornerstone Search Group has been retained by a thriving multi-billion-dollar Healthcare Company poised to expand by building its own Clinical Research Organization.   The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will report directly to the organization’s entrepreneurial Chairman.  The CEO will spearhead the responsibility of building the Clinical Research Organization (CRO) from scratch to include the expansion of internal studies to the US market. As employee #1, this CEO will have primary responsibility for building a team of 20-30 professionals. Further, this strategic role will develop corporate, business, and operational strategies and goals alongside internal executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In summary, the CEO will have primary responsibility across the CRO to include ownership of business plans, operations, strategy, finances, team growth, people management, SOPs, performance metrics, cross-functional collaboration, and external development.

  • Responsible for building the CRO from the ground floor by developing overarching business, strategic, operational, and growth plans.
  • Establish and execute short and long-term business goals, strategically creating policies, strategies, and core values that guide the CRO’s development and expansion.
  • Engineer scalable operations, complete with methods and metrics for planning, forecasting, and real-time tracking.
  • Oversee daily operations across Clinical Operations, Trial Management, and Project Management, harnessing their collective efforts for clinical excellence.
  • Cultivate relationships with internal cross-functional teams, stakeholders, leaders, and complementary external vendors.
  • Spearhead the development and implementation of company-wide systems, SOPs, and project management tools that harmonize operations.
  • Manage budgets, conduct forecasting reviews, and contribute to attaining overarching financial objectives.
  • Evaluate project team performance, including compliance with GCPs and ICH guidelines, federal and local regulations, and customer standards.
  • Lead the allocation and retention of staff across the organization, fueling growth through strategic recruitment.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with customers, vendors, executive management, and investigator sites.
  • Foster and nurture strategic relationships with external partners, from drug development experts to patient advocacy groups and beyond.
  • Responsible for the external growth of the CRO.
  • Foster a success-oriented environment within the company holding his/herself and others to the highest ethical standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required while an advanced scientific degree is preferred.
  • 15+ years of expertise in Clinical Research Organization, Pharmaceutical and/or Biotechnology Clinical Operations/Trial Management.
  • 10+ years of expertise in senior/executive-level leadership within the CRO Industry.
  • Adept ownership and oversight of CRO operations, strategy, and business planning.
  • Proficiency in fostering cross-functional relationships with fellow executive leaders within the organization.
  • Extensive team and people management experience.
  • Desire and confidence to build and grow the business from the ground floor.
  • Proficiency in efficient, timely, accountable, and performance-based leadership.
  • Ability to travel as needed both within the US and globally.
