Chief Executive Officer, Impactful Biologics Start-Up

Cornerstone Search Group has been retained by a successful and impactful stable specialty Biotech that is launching an exciting and highly promising Start-Up that is aimed to deliver a life-changing biologic to a mass market.  The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will have the responsibility of leveraging their business acumen and scientific understanding while navigating the regulatory process of biologic drug development/commercialization to build out this early-stage (post-Seed raise) start-up.

The CEO will have primary responsibility for building the team and infrastructure, supporting investor fundraising efforts, developing models for commercialization, reimbursement strategy, and navigating FDA approval. This position requires a well-rounded CEO who can bring to the table a strong business sense, an understanding of the science, and a passion for the product.


  • 10+ years of experience in the Life Sciences field, particularly in the cell and/or biologics space.
  • Experience as senior/executive/C-Suite level leadership.
  • Direct exposure and experience with all phases of the fundraising process as well as with the FDA 351 approval cycle.
  • Deep understanding of pricing and reimbursement, product commercialization, and the key functions of a life sciences development company.
  • Emotional intelligence and a superior set of communication skills, enabling this individual to effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong business sense with a complimentary scientific understanding.
  • Hands-on management style with experience building teams and company infrastructure.
  • Substantial knowledge of regulatory compliance practices.
  • Ability to travel as needed to parent company sites, industry events, and investor meetings.

  • Bring First in Class/Proven Technology to Market: Our client has extensive experience, and success, with biologics for this indication, supporting the feasibility of success in clinical trials and ultimately leading towards commercialization.
  • Directly Impact Patient Quality of Life: This product will replace the need for potentially harmful alternatives/or surgeries in addition to providing lasting results, thus increasing patient quality of life for millions.
  • Work Remotely: This is a remote position, with typical executive travel as needed.


In summary, the CEO will have primary responsibility of building out the start-up and driving a biologic to market to include ownership over the strategic direction of the business, scaling the infrastructure, oversight of the FDA pathway, product reimbursement, commercialization, and sharing the product’s story to support fundraising efforts.

  • Establish and execute both short and long-range business goals, strategies, plans, policies and mission/core values designed to accommodate the growth objectives and vision of the organization.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional internal stakeholders, such as the Chief Scientific Officer and the Board, and external industry players, while pursuing alliances, partnerships, and other instrumental stakeholders while navigating the path to commercialization.
  • Oversee the FDA development pathway, providing strategy and oversight to the key players involved in the FDA interactions.
  • Ownership over navigating reimbursement and commercialization, ultimately determining the right distribution channel.
  • Oversee the organization’s financial plan, keeping the mission and goals of the company in mind.
  • Responsible for the strategy and accomplishment of critical milestones such as code approvals, reimbursement rates, manufacturing, distribution, sales planning etc.
  • Be able to effectively tell the product’s story to support fundraising efforts and external partnerships, including establishing relationships and maintaining engagement with investors.
