SVP/VP, Finance: Stable, growing Generic/Specialty Pharma | Central NJ or Greater Hartford, CT: RETAINED SEARCH

SUMMARY:  Cornerstone has been retained by a very stable and growing Generic/Specialty Pharma that is looking to hire an SVP/VP of Finance.  Reporting to the CFO, you will have full ownership across finance and accounting.  Our client is looking for a well-rounded financial professional that can go beyond the day-to-day financial responsibilities and be able to lead a team of 14 and develop a strategic mindset across the department.  While operating like a smaller company without the typical larger company obstacles, our client is also extremely stable with a strong appetite for further growth.  The finance team is stable and strong.  Our client is looking for someone that can lead the team and take them to the next level as the company grows.

POSITION:  Senior Vice President or Vice President, Finance

LOCATION: Central, NJ or Greater Hartford, CT:– commutable from most NJ locations as well as Eastern PA, Southern NY/NYC and Southern CT.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare financial statements and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position.
  • Ensure integrity of all financial information under US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Create, develop and maintain a system of controls within accounting that balances audit objectives and cost-benefit constraints.
  • Manage periodic internal financial reporting, including the completion of financial statements and footnotes, and management's discussion and analysis encompassing review of all new accounting matters and application of judgment.
  • Manage annual and quarterly audit processes (internal and external) and support the organization during regulatory audits and internal controls.
  • Oversee federal and state government price reporting, rebating and claims-processing and related policies, procedures and controls; government pricing and similar submissions; ensure timely payment of required rebates; and in conjunction with the Legal Department, track changes in laws, regulations and industry practices associated with such activities and oversees biennial “gap analysis” review by outside auditor/reviewer.
  • Track all cash balances, investments, deposits and escrows, logging all receipts and disbursements; manage accounts payable and assure timely payment of disbursements; establish a robust cash forecast model to anticipate cash flow fluctuations; establish relationships with banks and other financing institutions; transfer cash among accounts as necessary, while attempting to maximize interest earned.
  • Perform tax management, fulfilling tax requirements, working closely with group and local tax advisors and strategically planning to optimize tax positions and minimize tax risks.  Address federal, state and local audits.
  • Collaborate with business partners to implement "better run" finance processes for outsourced/insourced finance activities, especially regarding the shared service center.
  • Work closely with the Operations, Legal and Business Development teams on complex contracts to ensure the best results and appropriate accounting and financial reporting.
  • Lead the controllership team in implementing any new accounting standards, completing the goodwill impairment review and the segment analysis annually.
  • Engage with functional leaders on central budgets and capital projects ensuring costs are contained and business cases are sound.
  • Lead budgeting process while ensuring consistency, risk evaluation and proper analysis. Work closely with management to implement rolling business forecasting.
  • Design and lead the implementation of a system for managing and complying with Most Favored Nations customer pricing provisions.
  • Work closely with President and General Counsel and outside insurance agency to evaluate, select and bind appropriate business insurance for the company (including, among other policies, general liability, commercial property, flood, crime, business auto, product liability, workers compensation and employers’ liability, umbrella, travel accident and executive risk policies).
  • Oversee the calculation of all profit splits and royalties with partners and licensors, prepare and provide related reporting to partners/licensors, and ensure payments are timely made.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Previous experience with working in a multinational complex matrix organization and in SOX environments; previous experience with SEC reporting a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Accounting/Finance.
  • CPA required.
  • Pharmaceutical or Life Science Industry required.
